Testing Cafe Press Store

I made a Cafe Press Store. You can buy Simon's artwork on a thank you card. Proceeds go to the Wild Wild West Fundraiser.

T-Shirt Ideas

I learned that since I was the Captain of the Wild Wild West team, that I was in charge of getting the t-shirts made. I need to work with the other captain to figure it out. I need your help too. The theme for Relay for Life 2010 is "Walkin' Around the Clock." If you haven't guessed yet... it is a 50's theme. I need to come up with a 50's themed shirt for our Wild Wild West Team. Here are my ideas so far. Feel free to post other ideas too.

  1. Rebel with a Cause (A scientist doing cancer research)
  2. 3D monster movie poster (It came from deep inside the body!)
  3. Sock Hop (That gives the word "cancer" a black eye and head birdies.)
  4. Cancer shouldn't be a Drag. (Drag racers leave cancer in the dust.)

Let me know what you think.

Sock Hop Information

OK, Here is my real post. I got the video up in a hurry because I don't know how long KCOY would keep the video on their site.

Here is the scoop...

Rally was a way to get people interested in starting new teams for Relay for Life - Santa Maria. I knew that we were allowed to sell stuff at the event to raise some money for our teams. I went to a scrap booking retreat over Valentine's Day. With the help of 30 lovely ladies, I made 36 scrapbooks to sell for our team. All of the ladies were so helpful and we had a lot of fun. I especially want to thank Sheri and Elaine who helped get me a deal on the supplies. THANKS GUYS!!! I was really excited to get a chance to sell the scrapbooks and raise some money. I sold 1 book. Bummer! ONLY ONE! At least I have 4 more months to sell them. I know I can sell a bunch the day of the actual event. So I am not worried.

I also was trying to sell some note cards that were drawn by my son, Simon. I didn't sell any of those. Darn. I am going to put the cards on the cafe press storefront so that family and friends can buy them if they want to. Simon has such an original sense of art. The cards are really funny.

The sock hop itself was really fun. The Wild Wild West Girls were serving cake and root beer floats. There was a costume contest, a hula hoop contest, and dance lessons. Simon was desperate to go with me. I really wanted him to go because I want him to know how important raising awareness about cancer is. I want him to learn how to be compassionate and how to support causes that are important to him. It is good to show support to your community, your family and your friends. He even dressed up in a costume of his own. I want him to learn that every penny matters and that you use the talents and resourses that you have avaliable. I love him and his support.

January 26th Captain Meeting

  1. Get Ready for Rally on February 25th. A 1950's Sock Hop - It should be a good time. It will likely be at the Pacific Christian Center, but they are hoping to have it at a larger location. Teams will be able to sell things at the event to raise money for their team. I am going to make scrapbooks like I did last year with the help of my scrapbooking friends. Hopefully we can make 30 books to sell at the event. That will net the team about $300. I also am going to sell cards that my son has created. I haven't decided what that will be yet.
  2. CPS3 - If you signed up for the CPS3 event at last years event, YOU NEED TO TURN IN YOUR QUESTIONNAIRES. 86 people out of 300 have not completed the initial paperwork. Please turn them in soon.
  3. Daffodil Sales - The American Cancer Society sells flowers each year in March. You can pre-order the flowers from the Relay for Life Site. Click the link to the RFL site and then click the tab for Daffodil Days.
  4. New Team Rules. No more than 30 people per team. - This year they are limiting the teams to 30 people. This means that if you have more than 30 people, you will need to start a second team. This will be difficult for some teams, but it will help to take pressure off of the team captains. It is much easier to manage 30 people that 60. There will have to be a separate team captain for the second team as well. This forces more people to help with all the responsibilities. And... More teams = more campsites. The bigger teams will now be able to get bigger campsites with this new rule.
  5. Wanted - Volunteers for Relay Events - The RFL needs a Spirit Team Chair, People to help with Decorations, a Team Development Cordinator, a Youth Team Organizer, People to help get Sponsorships, and a Theme Lap Organizer. You can talk to Miranda at the Rally on Feb 25th if you are interested.
Remember - The American Cancer Society is the Official Sponsor of More Birthdays. Please try to eat right and exercise. If everyone could live a healthy lifestyle we could cut our risk of cancer. You can get support from friends through Facebook, Twitter, or my favorite - Blogging. Take care of yourself in 2010 and help to support your friends to do the same.
